Truth & Rhyme

I dreamt that I was fasting at a picnic
I dropped my glass and I spilled my wine
The crowd all gathered round the peacenik
Mumbling maybe the truth doesn’t rhyme
I smiled and I put on my lipstick
Admired it’s ruby red shine
Ignored like I was your sidekick
Because maybe the truth doesn’t rhyme
When the truth doesn’t rhyme
Still the truth doesn’t lie
Keep moving forward
It’s a fierce and wicked climb
I sat down in the rose garden, homesick
The smell of the roses was sublime
Gazed in my mirror at a lunatic
Muttering maybe the truth doesn’t rhyme
I whispered forgive me, felt seasick
And guilty tho I’d committed no crime
Life was becoming a trainwreck
Now that maybe the truth doesn’t rhyme.
When the truth doesn’t rhyme
Still the truth doesn’t lie
Keep moving forward
It’s a fierce and wicked climb
After all, the truth doesn’t always rhyme.

Invisibility

We always thought we’d be young forever
But it didn’t work out that way
Never had too much of a good thing
Still so much better than just okay
Something’s been wrong for awhile;
it’s coming to the surface at last
A janglin’ melody, like tiny bells.
Collapsing hopes, didn’t we have a blast
So many books I want to read;
so many songs left to sing
Can you still see me?
How did we bring ourselves to this pass?
Surely slightly over the speed limit
Looking soft from hard use
Living each day minute to minute
So many books I want to read;
so many songs left to sing
Can you still hear me?
So you go your way and I’ll go mine...
And then we’ll meet in the middle and erase the line
Fate speaks with utter permanance
Listen closer, timeless friends
Denial may be a powerful thing
So get a witness to how it all ends
The idea came gently to my door
In the quiet of a tired twilight
Life is art. Offered up as a gift.
The gallery of memories shining bright
So many books I want to read;
so many songs left to sing

Coming Home

I feel like crying, my heart beats fast, but I’m smiling
Seems like forever had a pretty good case of the blues
Time to buy a ticket for a different train of thought
Time to put on my traveling shoes
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
There is power in knowing what you don’t know
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
How else are you ever gonna grow
A song makes me smile like I know a secret,
so I shout and whisper along through the mountains
Sun sets the trucks in the parking lot ablaze
My imagination shimmers like fountains
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
There is power in knowing what you don’t know
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
How else are you ever gonna grow
To be entirely myself, all there, for better or worse.
Dance in the street with no shame
Breeze blows rain from golden trees in the sunshine
Just Like the trees, we’re connected by our roots
That was home for awhile, but I’m leaving it now
Chasing after new and different pursuits
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
There is power in knowing what you don’t know
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
How else are you ever gonna grow
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
There is power in knowing what you don’t know
It’s complicated; yes, but what isn’t?
How else are you ever gonna grow
How else are you ever gonna grow
