Bewitching, blasting, Blaring, bleeding Twists my ear So self-defeating... Black moon haunted Flickering madness Wine to water Heart of sadness It’s a new kind of music It’s a new kind of music and we’re bound to sing it for A new revolution A new revolution... bop bop... Isolated and peculiar Hard and lonely, Faint and homely Thick as smoke Scream in vacuum Words say nothing Baffled de-sire Everything It’s a new kind of music It’s a new kind of music and we’re bound to sing it for A new revolution A new revolution... bop bop... Do you like it? Do you love it? Hopeful stories Hopeless times Proclamation of your passion Generous, outrageous, true Fitful, crowded Dreams like neon, Dreams like magic From the blue It’s a new kind of music It’s a new kind of music and we’re bound to sing it for A new revolution A new revolution... bop bop... It’s a new kind of music It’s a new kind of music and we’re bound to sing it for A new revolution A new revolution... bop bop... It’s a new kind of music

Waterfalls falling down like stars Beaming, cascading, dancing Falling like raindrops asleep beside me Fading in giggly panic, laughing Faded images of young dreams Float like sweet music notes Petal pink peonies Fireflies, angels, ghosts Fleeting summer friends forgotten Bookshops, treetops, lollipops If I had wings to get there I would shout from the rooftops Music murmurs like nightfall Oceans otherwise overflowing With affection and darkness Hear it in the wind, tiptoeing Fleeting summer friends forgotten Bookshops, treetops, lollipops If I had wings to get there I would shout from the rooftops Drowning in songs; melancholy, Unsung, unworthy, within Admired as innocent merriment By friends and next of kin The stars are coming out neatly, Pitiful sideways singing; Abundant stars shine like snowfall Sky mad with stars ripe for wishing

Mind's Eye 01:52
She had a laugh in her, always did Now days go by, she just wants to cry Shuffling about in the sunshine Vague and hazy in her mind’s eye Her mind had green eyes Green and bloodshot eyes Like a sea dragon or a sour apple Tired eyes that rarely see sunrise Feeling like a spare part Dreamy, full of dread Dried-out words stuck in her mouth Air stale with things unsaid She sat staring at the wall Then looked down at her plate With nothing left to lose Picked up her fork and ate Forward movement feels like whiplash A promise is a fearsome thing Forever forgotten, forlorn Like shoes without a string She had a laugh in her, always did Now days go by, she just wants to cry Shuffling about in the sunshine Vague and hazy in her mind’s eye Vague and hazy in her mind’s eye Vague and hazy in her mind’s eye

Green House 03:00
Where do you think you’re going? To your Green House Is the water flowing in your Green House? What is that you’re growing in your Green House? Green House. Green House. Green House. Wearing summer clothes in your Green House With a suntan on your nose in your Green House Sow the evening primrose in your Green House Green House, Green House, Green House Reverse the process with persistence in your Green House Ignore the path of least resistance to your Green House Extraordinary and peculiar is your Green House Green House. Green House. Green House. Best to have it and not need it in your Green House Than to need it and not have it in your Green House Tie it up and wrap it in your Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House. Keep on drinking coffee in your Green House Until the pot is empty in your Green House Shine your cup until it’s glossy in your Green House Green House, Green House, Green House I guess your curiosity around your Green House Isn’t what it used to be around your Green House Forgive my verbosity around your Green House Green House. Green House. Green House. Where do you think you’re going? To your Green House Is the water flowing in your Green House? What is that you’re growing in your Green House? Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House. Green House.... Green House.

Low Tide 02:37
Joy comes in at low tide In the waves knee deep What treasure generous ocean brings To lay down at your feet Gather the joy and carry it home The treasures and the feelings What does joy feel like? When the sky’s your only ceiling? Waves of lightness in your chest, Like you’re bubbling a bit on the inside Watching the pelicans skim the waves Welcoming you to the joyride Gather the joy and carry it home The treasures and the feelings What does joy feel like? When your sunburned nose starts peeling? Allow yourself to be carried away On a warm summer breeze On a day like today Sky above like a robin’s egg Colors bright and true as heaven Bottomless blue at the horizon, Cyan where the pounding waves beckon Gather the joy and carry it home The treasures and the feelings What does joy feel like? When the sky’s your only ceiling? What does joy feel like? When your sunburned nose starts peeling?

Lean In 02:33
Anything can be anything Every day is just a day Your mind is insanely cool Go ahead and do it your way, just Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to silence... Someone’s gotta set the trends Weeds are wildflowers blooming in the wrong place So much stranger than you supposed Full of decency, full of grace, so Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to silence... The sun is kissing the horizon Watch closely as stars collide Now we see the picture forming Spirits rising like the tide, so Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to silence... There are two sides to every story And we haven’t heard either one Like a locomotive it can only stop gradually And we’ve only just begun to Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to silence... you got to Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to silence... c’mon and Lean in to life... Lean in to love... Lean in to time... Lean in to peace

about

Innocent Merriment is a collection of songs I wrote between April 2021 and June 2022. Many of them were recorded at the same time as my Reason To Smile EP, but they didn't seem to fit the theme of that record. One evening after Reason was released, I listened to them again and felt like I was listening to a coherent collection. I added a newer song, affectionately known as Bop Bop, to kick things off, and Innocent Merriment was complete. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy my songs. ☮️🌻🎶
